What is the best way to improvise a tortilla press?

As I cook mainly Asian dishes, it is not likely that I will consider buying a tortilla press.  However, if you need one, I will suggest that you try to improvise with the kitchen utensils that you have on hand.

Do you have two wooden rectangular cutting boards similar to the one shown here?

If you place one on top of the other, they can work like a tortilla press. If you like how your tortilla turned out, you can make it a permanent device by attaching a hinge at the end without the handle.  Then follow the tips shared in the video I found to make sure that you use your press correctly so that your tortilla puff up perfectly when it is pan fried.

If you are into woodworking and you have the required tools, you can make your own tortilla press from scratch by watching this video.

However, even if you do not have a press, you can roll out your dough with a rolling pin.

If you do not have a rolling pin, you should not have any problem using an empty wine bottle.

You can also use your bare hands and work on the dough like you are trying to make a base for pizza.

Watch this video to learn how to prepare your dough correctly and roll it out without a tortilla press.

Have fun studying?

Kids, you can have my permission to have the computers on all day during the weekends if your eyes are glued to the free tutorials posted at Khan Academy. It is free because the project is funded by Bill Gates Foundation.

What can you learn there? Plenty as there are over 2400 videos from arithmetic to physics, and finance to learn from. So now you can practice maths at your own pace at home.

Go for it and start earning badges and points for learning. I hope you will aim to become a global coach one day.

As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night

As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night
Hear a mother shout a loud
"It's past 9! Go to sleep!"
The shrill of laughter stopped
Hear the children scrambled to bed
Fearful of the cane to follow
Mummy's patience not one to test

Sometimes when I look at the way my children behave, I do wonder if I am the same when I was a kid. A check with my mother sometimes give me the answer but it is a feat if she is able to as she has six children's events to recall. So, I can't blame her if she has forgotten how it was with me.

So, I will try to put in writing how my children behave when they were children. The first 3 lines of the above poetry is a daily routine during school days. Last four lines are just my wishful thinking. It is very difficult to get the children to sleep early. They will soon be down looking for supper even though I have declared my kitchen is closed.

And talk about the phrase (that inspired this writing), "As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night"; that is expressive writing, children. You can pick up some writing skills from Stacy Tartar Esch, Adjunct English Instructor of West Chester University.

How To Iron Your Shirts

My husband learned to become self-reliant at a very young age. He lost his father at the age of 10 and had to help out at home. This experience makes him a natural taking care of the children when I am not around and he has no qualms helping out at home.

This is the kind of man, I would like my son to grow up to be. Teaching him how to iron his own shirt is a good start.

If I keep at teaching him how to be self-reliant at home, he is going to grow up to be a ladies' man, I am sure. Don't you agree?
