"Garbage in garbage out", I often hear this from my teachers in school. I wonder if teachers today still use this phrase.
Anyway, be mindful of what you put into your mind and body, children. You read and learn the wrong things and you will churn them out in your speech and actions. When you take food you should avoid, you can feel the effects and I will be able to see your sufferings.

As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night
As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night
Hear a mother shout a loud
"It's past 9! Go to sleep!"
The shrill of laughter stopped
Hear the children scrambled to bed
Fearful of the cane to follow
Mummy's patience not one to test
Sometimes when I look at the way my children behave, I do wonder if I am the same when I was a kid. A check with my mother sometimes give me the answer but it is a feat if she is able to as she has six children's events to recall. So, I can't blame her if she has forgotten how it was with me.
So, I will try to put in writing how my children behave when they were children. The first 3 lines of the above poetry is a daily routine during school days. Last four lines are just my wishful thinking. It is very difficult to get the children to sleep early. They will soon be down looking for supper even though I have declared my kitchen is closed.
And talk about the phrase (that inspired this writing), "As Day Is Swallowed Up By Night"; that is expressive writing, children. You can pick up some writing skills from Stacy Tartar Esch, Adjunct English Instructor of West Chester University.

Callie wants to build a house.
Callie came across a book from the tuition centre. It is a DIY book and one of the projects show a child building a model house out of a cardboard box.
So, she should be interested in the designs posted on Ben & Jerry's New England Village.

Go out and play, Calvin!
What happens when you curtail your children's play time on video games during the weekdays?
My son went wild over the weekend playing them. He is a mighty early riser every Sunday morning to start playing his video games as Mom will not be up yet reminding (OK, nagging) him of his limit with, "Play for one hour only!".
He has been complaining of headaches and body aches for the past few weeks. The doctor could not find anything wrong with him and the optician confirmed that his eyesight is alright accept that his eyes are sensitive to light. So, there lies his problem; he has overdosed himself with his video games addiction.
The optician said he needs to view more open space instead of constantly gazing at the computer. A search on this issue confirmed the prescription.
Calvin, note this extract from Better Health:
"Research shows that adults who work at computers for long periods of time are prone to a range of muscle and joint problems that can cause back pain, neck pain and headache".
So, go out and play, Calvin. Video games are off limit to you, even during weekends, till you know how to minimize your health risks by:
1) limiting your time on computer games.
2) not overusing the same controls, eg, keyboard, mouse, joystick or steering wheel.
3) not using unnecessary force on your controls.
4) taking frequent breaks to shake, flex and relax their hands.
Send link to this article to your friends if they invite you to play video games in their homes. And just in case there may be other underlying health issues, you are going for a blood test this Wednesday.
